TITLE: " Thirty years of Naval Propulsor Hydrodynamic Research At the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division" |
ABSTRACT: Dr. Stuart Jessup will speak on the numerous activities of the Navy's propulsor design and research community since 1976. This will include Naval fleet class propeller designs, and numerous research efforts to improve Naval propeller performance. Research areas will include propeller blade surface pressure measurements for the validation of potential based prediction codes, measurement of blade flows using LDV to support RANS code development, and crashback studies to advance the use of LES, using PIV and unsteady load measurement techniques.
SHORT BIO: Dr. Jessup received his B.S. and M.S. from MIT in Ocean Engineering in 1974 and 1976, and his Ph.D. at Catholic university of America in 1989. Dr. Jessup has been a member of the International Towing Tank Conference, received the David W. Taylor award in 1996, the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service award in 2000, and became a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2007. Dr. Jessup is currently the Senior Scientist for Hydrodynamics at the Naval Surface Warfare Center.
